08/07: July 4th

I am breaking my square format rule in order to post "America" - I didn't want to crop the picture. The weekend was beautiful, blue skies with puffy clouds and warm weather. The girls helped wax the Model "A" the night before the parade. Dad bought the car before he married Mom, supposedly from the proceeds of a poker game and after years of waiting in the barn in a fading olive green state it has been slowly restored, painted a bright canary yellow and dubbed "Sarah". She has also been joined by a new companion "Lester" a blue model 'A" sedan, with a respectable hard top and back seat in contrast to Sarah's sporty convertable top and rumble seat. Though the girls were given the option of riding in the card through the parade route they instead chose to watch, and with candy and fudgesickles thrown to the crowds who can blame them? We took our usual spot in the shade of the maples in front of the old "Barkley" house, but the house has changed hands, and no longer hosts the flea market out front. but ther eis still the library book sale and the volunteer fire departments chicken barbeque - there are plans to start a new flea market at the "styles' house down the street. Mom, Dad, Dick, Laila, Cathy, Lindsey and Jack waved from the cars. Back at home we made chocolate ice-cream, made a long slide on the front hill from black plastic and a sprinkler, and mom brought out sparklers in the evening. It was a great weekend.
