16/09: Back to school

Lizzie started going to pre-school this week, just two mornings a week. It's just a short time for her, just two and a half hours, and she loves it so far. She will get to swim there regularly, as its at the "Y". The weather was hot and sticky, and it seems to overwhelm the universities cooling system. Students in Tory and my classes were sweating buckets. Today the spell has broken and the rain is coming down heavy, hopefully followed by cooler weather. We are planning a trip to the Barton Garnet mine in the Adirondacks, reported to be the largest and best in the world we hope that it will satiate Zoe's increasing desire for more gems and crystals.

08/09: Zoe's Hell

Zoe's perception of "Hell" after Tory told her it was a "bad place" that some people believe in. "Thunder and lightning, dark, falling off swings at the playground, hungry dogs, no quiet music, no chairs." Zoe has been curious about bible stories lately - Tuesday dinner time was spent with the girls riveted, pasta uneaten, as I told them about Noah and Moses.

03/09: Labor day

A beautiful goodbye to Summer. A weekend with our good friends at the camp in Onsciota.

01/09: Katrina's rains and summer's end.

By the time Katrina reached Northeastern New York it was far more tempered in it's wrath, leaving us with two and a half inches of rain and a little bit of blustery winds. The rains were welcome, late summer had left us dry, crinkling brown grass and a withering garden. So this late August storm was appreciated, though the rain seemed to signal the end of summer, as labor day knocked on the door. Eager for a treasure hunt, the girls followed a series of maps through the yard and into the woods to X's marking a spot where treasure was buried (a string of glass pink beads).

We are back in the swing of things, college classes have begun, and school begins next week. But,we are off to the Adirondacks this weekend, where some friends have a camp, and we hope to see the summer out as we saw it enter, with canoeing, swimming and hiking.
